Two Poems

An Observation

Soft rain on the stone
Early dawn visitation
The tears of a cloud

Over a private salute
No decorations or songs
A silent concert
On days of winter turned spring –

And through the summer
As the young play out their dreams
In youthful belief –

As if the days will never darken –

As if nothing will ever pass

Roses

I wake to a sky that presents a challenge
If I intend to stay dry
But coffee comes first

It’s hard to find peace in the body
When bodies parade through our screens
In various states of disarray

Time runs away with our best years
And life gives us many trials
But roses bloom somewhere

See those kids playing in the park? –
Some will win, some will find trouble
But all deserve a fair shot

The rain takes out our flower garden
It wasn’t much to look at
But roses bloom somewhere;
We have to find them
