The World is Celebrating

And at that moment you throw sadness away,

blend in with the revelers and wait for them

to recognize you and pivot your way—they’re

already abandoning the new steakhouse

and heading towards you, a scene multiplied

by the hundreds throughout the city. Soon

they’ll be carrying you on their shoulders, waves

of humanity squeezing through the boulevards,

the lights and the moon brighter than ever before,

the loved ones you lost hiding in the air, applauding.
