Made Flesh

what’s gotten into you

you’ve slipped

the baby-phase

entirely

and here you are,

filling my space,

Fully Formed Man

You are so

fleet-bodied,

you are

so

your body.

Your body is

so

surfer on a wave-crest

dancer en l’air

lumberjack axe cracking

sailor gale-tamer

made flesh

rippling

supple

easy

male

holy

soon enough

you will be taken away

but now,

how

beautiful

your very feet.

The poems of Johanna Caton, O.S.B. have appeared in The Christian Century, A Time of Singing Quarterly Poetry Journal, "The Catholic Poetry Room" website, and other online venues.  She is a Benedictine nun of Minster Abbey in England, but was born in the U.S. and lived there until adulthood, when her monastic vocation took her to the U.K.
