Green Hills Literary Lantern

His Voice

rolls low across the field

like milkweed, like heat-thunder,

like the deep wind that knows

when storms will darken

the braided barley.

I hold his voice

in my hands.

It pulses, silks

through my fingers,

scrawling colors

across my breeze-softened palms,

now yellow, now burgundy,

now an indigo dusk.

His words unspool

from the evening sky, weave

themselves among silver threads

to blanket my shoulders

from the cool night air.
