Why I Am Complete

Here in this cove-tucked lakeside cabin I call home,

the elements are easy.

The light slips through the cabin windows,

water responds with a glow,

a spider web gleams, a willow’s arched branches

—almost a cliché—droop over the shore.

I have begun the last third of my life.

My young adult daughters

breathe steadily in the other room.

The man it took me a lifetime

to find does the same next to me.

All this breathing in and out, here, now, with mine.
