Black Moons

Brass button undone,

     denim shirtsleeve rolled up,

 pale as moonlight shot in.

The soul turns a slow circle,

a howl swallowed from the throat,

body backlit within.

     Mind chases its own tail

          travels through raveled veins.

My reflection dimmed

          in pupils protracted into moons.
