Green Hills Literary Lantern

April 1st

You can't expect us to learn
while the breezes teach the flags to dance,
their flapping steps changing
at the will of their conductor.
We won't stay inside on a day
when the grass becomes our mattress,
each blade cradling us like a mother.
While we drift into dreams in their
delicate grasp, daffodils the color of sun
trumpet a fanfare, standing upright to greet
the incoming spring.
